Towards the spring sectoral meetings
You can now mark the dates and locations of the national sectoral meetings of the Marine Vision phase in your calendar. The spring sectoral meetings will hear the views of the sectors on the need for an update in the second round of the maritime spatial plan and on the objectives for the use of the sea. All events will last 3 hours and will take place either as live events or exclusively via Teams. Details will be finalised during January and invitations to the events will be sent to targeted sectoral representatives.
The second round of maritime spatial planning was launched in early 2024 by a decision of the coastal regional councils. The marine environment has changed since the adoption of the first maritime spatial plan (December 2020): EU legislation on biodiversity and nature protection has been renewed, ambitious national targets for marine energy production have been set, climate change has progressed faster than expected, and the importance of shipping and marine food production has increased, in terms of security of supply and other issues. In addition, security and safety issues have become more prominent. The second planning cycle will address all 11 themes identified in the maritime spatial planning process. The updated situation picture for each theme will be validated and the visions and roadmaps updated.

These themes will run through the second planning cycle. The update of the Finnish Maritime Spatial Plan will take place between 2024 and 2027.
