An international consultation for the revised Maritime Spatial Plan for Finland to be held in 2027 - a prenotification sent out to Baltic Sea countries in accordance with the Espoo Convention
As part of the revision work of the Maritime Spatial Plan for Finland (2024-2027), a strategic environmental assessment is being carried out in accordance with the national Act on the Assessment of the Effects of Certain Plans and Programmes on the Environment. The assessment will be carried out alongside the revision work in the coming years. For potential transboundary impacts, an international consultation will be organised in accordance with the Espoo Convention. The international and national consultations will be held simultaneously in 2027.
A prenotification of the international consultation has been sent in early June to the Baltic Sea countries that have ratified the Espoo Convention via the Finnish Environment Agency. The prenotification informs that work on revising the Maritime Spatial Plan for Finland is ongoing as well as communicates the structure, timing and key contents of the process. Countries are requested to express their interest in participating in the international consultation in 2027 as a response to the notification.
